Hanukkah is an eight-day Jewish vacation commemorating the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem through the Maccabean Revolt of the 2nd century BCE. It’s also referred to as the Competition of Lights or the Feast of Dedication.
Hanukkah is widely known by lighting a menorah, a candelabra with 9 branches, one for every night time of the vacation. The menorah is lit on the primary night time of Hanukkah and an extra candle is added every night time till all 9 candles are lit on the final night time. Hanukkah can be celebrated by consuming conventional meals akin to latkes (potato pancakes) and sufganiyot (jelly doughnuts).
