FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

How can I share my User Data with other users?

Reveal Chromatography stores reusable data (products, column types, resins, ...) in the User Data, to avoid Excel input files having to specify over and over data elements which don’t change from one study to another.

Starting with version 0.7.2, Reveal Chromatography offers basic ability to share User Data with other users in 2 ways. To manually share User Data with a small number of users, one can export their User Data to a file of their choosing (File > Export User Data As...), which can be shared with a user.

Alternatively User Data can be share across a team of users, by modifying the preference file for all users, having their installation point to a shared drive, visible to them. This can be done by modifying the entry called user_ds_folder in the application part of the preferences. Refer to Customizing the application: the preference panel to learn how to modify preferences.

Note that future versions of Reveal Chromatography will support storing User Data in a central/shared database.

What is the difference between the regular and “DEBUG” launchers?

The both launch the same application, the “DEBUG” version simply displays a windows console displaying messages while the application is running. Note that the regular launcher also flashes when executing CADET, which can be surprising and annoying. We are working on suppressing this. Until release of version 1.0, we recommend you run the DEBUG so that you can effectively report any issue you might see by including a screenshot of the information displayed in that terminal.

I have a custom version of CADET. Can Reveal still be useful?

Reveal Chromatography is designed to launch any CADET executable, as long as it is compatible with CADET 2. If you have multiple version of CADET executables you would like to use, that path to the CADET executable to use can be changed in the preference dialog (see Customizing the application: the preference panel). Note that there is no need to restart Reveal once the CADET target has been changed: you can run different versions of CADET during the same session.

Additionally, you may be interested in using Reveal just to prepare a simulation, and its CADET input file, to run CADET externally. That can be done using the scripting interface (see Developer Reference), using the function kromatography.solve.api.create_cadet_file_for_sim(). See its documentation, or the scripting example Build and run a new simulation and save it in a study for information on how to use it.
